Hola España!

Around Malaga.

Our first base in Spain was an amazing apartment in the exuberant port city of Malaga. As the guide book states " brilliant in every sense".

The city centre presents the visitor with narrow old streets and wide leafy boulevards, beautiful gardens, impressive monuments and the spectacular hilltop 8th century Alcazar fortress - the Gibralfaro - the best preserved Moorish fort in Spain with the 1st century Roman Theatre at its base and the nearby Plaza de Toros (bull fighting ring).

I have used a photo of a photo to capture the full view.

Built over an ancient Mosque is the huge Cathedral de la Encarnación, known as "The One-Armed Lady" because it is still missing its south tower due to funds being diverted to fight the American War of Independence.

The city markets with their mouthwatering supply of fresh seafood and wonderful tapas bars had us captivated.

This little piggy ..... could end up on your table!

and ...... I couldn't resist a refreshing glass or three of sangria to accompany the wonderful selection of tapas!

As we were to find everywhere we went, Spain seems to fall into a deep slumber around 2pm each day and awakens, refreshed around 5pm when the residents slowly re-appear to stroll the many winding streets and laneways until it is time to have an evening meal starting somewhere around 10:30pm! However, declining a siesta in favour of exploring we found it really hard to stay awake until it was time for the restaurants to open for dinner.
